Nonprofit Capacity Building

Alton Park Development Corporation -- $2,085
Project/Program: U.N.I.T.E.D.
For neighborhood associations within the Alton Park community to go on a retreat designed to build unity in the community.

Chattanooga Endeavors -- $9,880
Project/Program Title: Delancey Street Foundation Training
For a three-day training program in Chattanooga with the Delancey Street Foundation.

Children's Advocacy Center -- $4,000
Project/Program Title: Board Development and Strategic Planning
Board Development and strategic planning to position the Board's decision making for the co-location of the Child Protective Investigative Team.

Family and Children's Services -- $10,000
Project/Program Title: Marketing and Branding
As a goal of a recently completed strategic plan, Family and Children Services will undergo a name change and structural reorganization to convey more clearly the fact that they are a nonprofit, not a governmental agency, and to make their services more accessible to their constituents by grouping programs in areas of affinity.

Family Theatre Workshop -- $1,500
Project/Program Title: Board Retreat
This project will enable Family Theatre Workshop to hold a board retreat (Summer 2002) for the upcoming fiscal year.

Northside Neighborhood House -- $5,000
Project/Program Title: Strategic Planning & Community Survey
For a full-day strategic planning retreat to evaluate client needs, assess existing programs, identify new programs and measure agency effectiveness. In order to provide the information required to hold a successful strategic planning session, the agency will conduct a research survey of clients and contributors.

RiverCity Company -- $5,000
Project/Program Title: Chattanooga Downtown Partnership Strategic Plan
To fund a strategic planning process that will help determine future priorities for the Chattanooga Downtown Partnership.

St. Elmo/Alton Park Partners, Inc. -- $4,000
Project/Program Title: Strategic Planning
A consultant with the Center for Nonprofits will lead the board through revisioning, training and strategic planning during a retreat and follow-up sessions.

Chattanooga Endeavors -- $10,000
Project/Program Title: Pre-Release Video
To partially fund the costs associated with the production and distribution of a video to Tennessee inmates who are returning to Hamilton County.

First Centenary United Methodist Church -- $19,677
Project/Program Title: Inner City Hispanic Children's Ministry
First Centenary United Methodist Church Inner City Ministry seeks to establish a satellite Language Learning Center for Hispanic children and youth and their families that will enhance their academic success and assist in bridging differences between cultures.

Girls, Inc. -- $6,000
Project/Program Title: Latina Outreach Project
To develop an outreach action plan and culturally competent programs to encourage Latina girls in the Highland Park, Eastside and Southside communities to join Girls, Inc. at its Highland Park center.

Health House -- $2,000
Project/Program Title: Life Begins, a Health Interactive, On the Road Program
The requested funds will facilitate the adaptation of the in-house Life Begins program into a mobile form, so that children, across the tri-state region, may experience the program inside their own school facilities. Life Begins is an honest presentation about puberty, the human reproductive systems and fetal development from conception to birth.

Moccasin Bend Girl Scouts -- $19,978
Project/Program Title: "V" Victory through Volunteer Service
To recruit and train 80 volunteer adult leaders and 40 older girl Program Aides from among the residents of inner city communities; thereby sowing the seeds for the development of a tradition of volunteerism in the inner city.

American Hiking Society -- $15,000
Project/Program Title: Chattanooga Office Space
Based from a newly established Chattanooga office, the Southern Appalachian Initiative will strengthen, build and network the hiking and conservation constituency among the Southeast's trail volunteers and their trail clubs, providing resources and staff assistance for such issues as leadership training, planning, trails funding and more.

Association for Visual Artists -- $10,000
Project/Program Title: 4 Bridges Arts Festival Expansion
Funding for the addition of two programs geared towards ethnic and special populations, "Bridging Challenges to Opportunity" will place art therapist-in-residency at Siskin Children's Hospital and Hosanna House. "Artists in your Neighborhood" will place artists in residency in three ethnic communities.

Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Association -- $5,000
Project/Program Title: CSO Family Series Program Expansion
A special collection of short-format concerts selected especially for families to serve as a perfect introduction to the world of classical, opera and pop music.

City of Chattanooga/Dept. of Neighborhood Services -- $5,000
Project/Program Title: NUSA 2003 Conference: Building on A Vision
To fund the Organizational Development symposium. Attendees will participate in a three-day intensive session providing interactive, hands-on approaches to developing neighborhood organizations.

YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga-- $20,000
Project/Program Title: Middle School Outreach
For an after-school program for 6th-8th grade students from "on-notice" schools in Hamilton County. The program provides supervision for forty students from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and focuses on health, fitness, academic enhancement, arts appreciation, behavior modification and group work.

Southside Historic District -- $5,000
Project/Program Title: English and Spanish Language Classes
To fund two sessions of two, ten-week language classes. One class will be an English as a Second Language (ESL) class for Hispanic residents of the Southside to learn conversational English. The other will be a traditional Spanish class where residents of the Southside will learn conversational Spanish.

Association for Visual Artists -- $6,750
Project/Program Title: Office Equipment
To purchase new computer/office equipment and office furniture.

Bachman Community Center -- $20,000
Project/Program Title: Roof Replacement
To replace the deteriorating roof on the former Bachman School (now home to the Bachman Community Center) headquarters for community programming including a Memorial Hospital satellite, READ literacy tutoring and various services for the elderly.

Battle Academy -- $20,000
Project/Program Title: Leveled Books
To purchase leveled books to meet the individual needs of students.

Brown Academy -- $20,000
Project/Program Title: Leveled Books
To purchase leveled books to meet the individual needs of students.

Chattanooga Area Law Enforcement Commission -- $10,000
Project/Program Title: Police Monument
To fund the Police Monument, a sculptured memorial dedicated to the service and sacrifice of Chattanooga/ Hamilton County Law Enforcement Officers.

Chattanooga CARES -- $20,000
Project/Program Title: HIV/AIDS Primary Care Clinic
Funds to assist with the construction of a 10,000-square-foot facility to house comprehensive HIV services and to provide a seamless continuum of care for HIV positive individuals.

Chattanooga Community Kitchen -- $20,000
Project/Program Title: Roof Replacement
To replace the roof on the Consider the Lillies Thrift Store building of the Community Kitchen.

Chattanooga Endeavors -- $5,000
Project/Program Title: Digital Delivery System
To purchase and maintain a digital copier.

Children's Advocacy Center -- $14,357
Project/Program Title: Co-Location of Child Protective Investigative Team
To provide funding for office equipment and renovations for the co-location of the Child Protective Investigative Team.

Metropolitan YMCA -- $20,000
Project/Program Title: Pre-School Expansion
The project includes renovation of additional space, classroom furnishings and an expanded kitchen including appliances and equipment to create two additional preschool classrooms; one for 2-3 year olds and the second for 4-5 year olds.

Northside Neighborhood House -- $13,360
Project/Program Title: Educational Computer Lab
To develop an educational computer lab that will augment the work of Northside Neighborhood House's existing programs.

Reflection Riding -- $10,000
Project/Program Title: Facility Improvement Project
To update the facilities in order to enhance the organization's ability to provide educational programming and increase the community's interaction with, and understanding of, Chattanooga's unique landscape.

Ronald McDonald House -- $20,000
Project/Program Title: Ronald McDonald Care Mobile
To help fund the purchase and equipping of the Care Mobile, a state of the art mobile health care clinic designed to bring medical and dental health care directly to those in need -- in their own community, eliminating the barrier of access.

Signal Mountain Welfare Council -- $20,000
Project/Program Title: Facility Purchase
To purchase an existing building to house the organization's programs including the food pantry, social worker's office, and thrift shop.

Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation -- $20,000
Project/Program Title: Urodynamics Laboratory
The Urodynamics will be the only equipment of its kind in the region and will provide an assessment tool for patients with spinal cord and/or brain injuries or stroke who may have underlying urological impairments.

University of TN at Chattanooga -- $19,984
Project/Program Title: UTC Children's Center Expansion
For the purchase of equipment and materials for the new infant programs located within Brown and Battle Academies, the two new downtown school sites.
