Project/Program: Strategic Planning and Audience Development Project
The mission of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera Association is to enrich the quality of life in the greater Chattanooga area by providing a variety of exemplary musical programs and productions of symphony, opera, and other genres.

To hire an outside resource to work with current Board members to achieve Board education, Program Evaluation; and Strategic Planning.

Domestic Violence Coalition of Greater Chattanooga -- $5,000
Program/Project: Strategic Planning
The Coalition proposes to engage in organizational development with the Center for Nonprofits. A facilitator will lead the Coalition through a strategic plan, the creation of a new organization infrastructure.

Interfaith Hospitality Network -- $2,125
Program/Project: Strategic Planning
For a Strategic Planning retreat with Trustees, past Trustees, staff and invited volunteers to develop goals for the next 3-5 years. Funding is to be used for a consultant from the Center for Nonprofits.

Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga -- $7,050
Program/Project: Kennedy Center Professional Development Workshops and Residencies
Requested funds would be used to pay a portion of the project budget connected with the fees and expense of the workshop leaders associated with the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Arts and Education Council -- $5,000
Program/Project: CultureFest 2003
This grant represents funding for CultureFest which is a celebration of many races and cultures in our city and region. CultureFest offers diverse cultural experiences through music, literary arts, visual arts and food.

Catholic Charities -- $15,000
Program/Project: Opportunity Home Supervised Visitation
To fund a volunteer coordinator to recruit, educate and coordinate volunteers. Opportunity Home is a supervised visitation program developed by Catholic Charities and Lutheran Services. The purpose of the program is to ensure safe exchanges and visitations with custodial and non-custodial parents. The courts have increased referrals, thus creating the need to increase staffing of volunteers.

Central High School -- $12,235
Program/Project: Central Entrepreneurial Program
Requested funds would be used to develop and implement a youth entrepreneurial program at Central High School.

Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences -- $9,000
Program/Project: Creative Dance
Requested funds would be used to partially fund a Creative Dance pilot program at CSAS.

Program/Project: College Access Website Development
Requested funds would be used to hire two freelance consultants, promote use of the site, and provide online staff development for education professionals, TA, web editing software and server maintenance for one year.

East Ridge Education Committee (EREC) -- $5,281.06
Project/Program: East Ridge Public School Brochure
To fund a marketing project consisting of a quality brochure to highlight the East Ridge schools and the community. Brochures will be distributed to the schools, East Ridge City government, the Chamber and realtors.

Epilepsy Foundation of East Tennessee -- $5,090
Project/Program: Educating the Child with Disabilities Symposium
To fund a symposium to prepare teachers and parents to engage in constructive, realistic learning goal establishment for children with spina bifida and seizure-related disorders.

Friends of the Zoo -- $7,280
Program/Project: Special Needs Employment
The funds will provide start-up for a new collaboration between the Zoo and the AIM Center. This grant provides funds to hire one AIM Center client to provide outside transitional employment.

Program/Project: Community Grief Support Services
To hire a part-time Community Grief Support Services Coordinator. The Coordinator will engage partner organizations to develop a community based network of trained counselors to provide grief support.

Requested funds would be sued to create a Neighborhood Reading Center/Library Branch in the Shepherd Recreational Complex.

To fund a hands-on learning lab where students and professionals will experience current best practices in early childhood special education.

The Hispanic Outreach Program is designed to provide specialized programming to Hispanic high school students.

Capital Expenditure

Alexian Brothers -- $10,000
Program/Project: Alexian Court
To fund the renovation of the St. Elmo School cafetorium into a Community Center. The Center will allow residents of Alexian Court and the St. Elmo community to participate in group activities and meetings.

Alton Park Development Corporation -- $8,563
Program/Project: Equipment Procurement
Alton Park Development Corporation was granted funds to purchase a new copier plus a one year maintenance contract.

Apison Elementary School -- $5,000
Program/Project: Software Acquisition for K-2 Computer Lab
To fund the purchase of leveled reading and math software for their K-2 computer lab. The Apison Elementary School PTA has raised $10,000 for this project and this grant is a 2:1 match with a maximum award of $5,000.

Program/Project: Technology/Media S.O.S.
The Requested funds will be used to purchase computers, office and media equipment to support Ballet Tennessee staff, programs and daily operations.

Baroness Foundation -- $7,800
Program/Project: Chattanooga Safe Kids Coalition
A grant to fund a public awareness and education campaign to address unintentional childhood injury including child passenger safety and wheeled sport safety. This grant is a one-time award for car seats.

Bushtown Neighborhood Association -- $20,000
Program/Project: Carver Center addition
The Requested funds will be used towards the construction of multiuse (office) space, specifically for the Association, in Carver Recreation Center.

CARES -- $20,000
Program/Project: HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Outreach and Testing
CARES requested funding to purchase OraSure test strips. OraSure is a bloodless HIV test that will allow CARES to conduct testing throughout the community at any time of day or night.

Chattanooga Community Kitchen -- $20,000
Program/Project: Kitchen Renovation
The requested funds will be used to replace, upgrade and purchase new equipment for the Food Service Department at the Community Kitchen.

Chattanooga Indigenous Resource Center -- $8,500
Program/Project: Library Resources Expansion
The Chattanooga Indigenous Resource Center (CIRCL) will expand their library with the addition of books, cassette tapes, CDs and videotapes produced and written by and/or about the Indigenous peoples. An on-line library catalog will be developed for the CIRCL web page.

Chattanooga Music Club -- $20,000
Program/Project: Restoration of the Austin Pipe Organ in Memorial Auditorium
The funds requested would be used to complete the restoration of the Choir Division of the pipe organ.

Chattanooga Nature Center -- $6,000
Program/Project: Self-Guided Tour
To fund the production of a self-guided tour, signage throughout the property and a touch screen computer kiosk in the visitor's center.

Children's Home/Chambliss Shelter -- $20,000
Program/Project: Outdoor Learning Environment
The Children's Home/Chambliss Shelter proposes to build a new playground/outdoor learning center. The design re-vamps the current landscape and allows for expansion, if necessary, to keep up with increasing enrollment.

Cumberland Trail Conference -- $20,000
Program/Project: Bowater Land Purchase
The requested funds would be used to purchase 6,000 acres from Bowater, Inc. During initial Cumberland Trail land acquisition planning, this land was going to be leased.

East Ridge Education Committee -- $5,000
Program/Project: East Ridge Education Depot
Funds to assist in purchasing materials to stock a depot which will provide East Ridge teachers with needed classroom supplies. EREC has solicited several churches and businesses and received tangible supplies.

Family Theatre Workshop -- $20,000
Program/Project: Sound System and Copier
To fund the purchase of a comprehensive, portable sound system and a large capacity copier with maintenance service.

Festive St. Elmo -- $19,926
Program/Project: Old #14 Fire Hall Renovation
The Old #14 Fire Hall will be used as a centrally located, highly visible, headquarters for the St. Elmo neighborhood organization and other resources.

Friends of Chattanooga Animal Services -- $10,000
Program/Project: Off-Leash Park for Dogs and Their People
The funds requested would be applied toward the purchase of an 8-foot chain-link fence with double-gate entry to enclose the off-leash dog park.

Friends of the Zoo -- $18,480
Program/Project: Himalayan Passage
The requested funds would be used to design, create and install educational graphic for the Himalayan Passage exhibit at the Zoo.

Girls Incorporated -- $10,000
Program/Project: Founders House Renovation
The grant provides funds for the renovations of Girls Inc.'s Founder's House in Highland Park. Renovations include making four spaces ADA compliant, renovating existing areas to house administrative offices and asbestos abatement.

H.A.N.D. Foundation -- $5,000
Program/Project: Rehabilitation Center
The grant provides funds to help in the construction of a new state-of-the-art animal rehabilitation center. The rehabilitation center is for homeless animals that are in need of daily medical treatment. HAND operates an animal care facility that provides hands-on care to thousands of animals each year.

Hope for Chattanooga -- $19,412.74
Program/Project: Installation of security fence and HVAC
The requested funds will be used to install a security fence around the Hope property and central heating and air on the first floor.

Legal Aid of East Tennessee -- $5,696.90
Program/Project: Equipment
The requested funds will be used to purchase much needed office furniture and equipment. The furniture will furnish a conference room and reception area in newly acquired office space.

Little Miss Mag Child Care Center -- $6,000
Program/Project: Equipment
Funds to purchase new tables, chairs, cots with sheets & blankets, toy housekeeping sets and two new pre-loaded computers.

Normal Park Museum Magnet -- $19,943
Program/Project: External Building Renovation
This grant provides funds to refurbish the wood exterior of the building and interior stairway walls. The work includes power washing the exterior brick structure, scraping and painting the exterior wood surfaces and scraping and painting the interior stairwells.

Partnership for Families, Children and Adults -- $20,000
Program/Project: Enhancement of Fire Safety in the Crisis Resource Center
This grant request is part of the Partnership's $2,000,000 capital campaign. Improvements and renovations are planned for three of the agency's sites.

Program/Project: School Furnishings Update
The requested funds will be used to update, replace or supplement the furnishings and equipment of the office, lobby and school and for the building signage, and teacher/staff technical needs.

Scenic City Drum and Bugle Corps -- $10,000
Program/Project: Musical Instrument Replacement
The requested funds will replace the Corp's front ensemble percussion instruments.

Program/Project: Barking Beetle Conference Center
Requested funds will be used to build an energy-efficient solar conference center.

Tri-State Resource and Advocacy Corporation -- $4,590.48
Program/Project: Sound-TRACs
Requested funds will be used to purchase equipment needed to provide a music program to individuals with disabilities. The equipment includes band and orchestra instruments, hardware for writing and creating music, items for reproducing music and music performance items.

Neighborhood Mini-Grant

Ridgedale Community Association -- $1,300
Program/Project: Organization Development
This project is intended to help the association membership work together to arrive at a shared vision and goal priority. The process involves training association leaders, implementing a community survey and completing a strategic planning process.

St. Elmo Improvement League -- $1,600
Program/Project: Invasive Plant Removal
To fund the removal of invasive plant species from four acres of partially wooded property in St. Elmo. Residents and members of the neighborhood association have volunteered to work. Grass is Greener will provide professional application of environmentally appropriate herbicides.
