Program/Project: Retooling and Revitalizing the Alexian Brother Senior Neighbors Center Programs
Senior Neighbors merged with Alexian Brothers of the Southeast on September 1, 2004 to form Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors (ABSN). As part of the merger process, ABSN will conduct visioning and strategic planning activities in order to evaluate current programs, outline the future direction and establish measurable outcome objectives for programs.

This year-long initiative begins with an opening workshop in January, followed by a September Town Hall Meeting, and will result in the creation of a Think Tank devoted to the exploration of diversity and economic issues in Hamilton County.

Program/Project: Temporary Employment Venture
Chattanooga Endeavors seeks matching funds through this grant as part of the Chattanooga Invests program. CEI will start a Temporary Employment Agency as an employment opportunity program to ex-offenders who are in existing CEI training programs.

Arts & Education Council - $7,500
Program/Project: 2005 Professional Development Workshop in Creative Writing
The 2005 AEC Conference on Southern Literature (CSL) School Outreach initiative provides professional development to 30 Hamilton County Middle School teachers through a creative writing workshop, taught by four (4) renowned Southern authors on March 30, 2005, and attendance to the Conference (March 31 through April 2, 2005).

East Ridge Revitalization Program - $2,000
Program/Project: Leadership East Ridge
East Ridge Revitalization Program intends to facilitate its first leadership class for the community as a pilot project to build capacity of additional volunteers and board members for civic organizations in the City. The monthly classes will occur for 12 months in 2005 with several field trips and a class project required in addition to the classes. Speakers will address issues relevant to East Ridge.
East Ridge Education Committee - $10,000
Program/Project: RACER - Read Across East Ridge
RACER provides a free book monthly for every student in grades K-3rd in each of the three elementary schools serving East Ridge. Monthly celebrations for every child reading 10 additional books will be held each month at different area locations. East Ridge Education Committee (EREC) will partner with East Ridge City Council to adopt and promote a nightly family reading time in the East Ridge community.
Volunteers in Medicine - $20,000
Program/Project: Medical Help for Uninsured Families
Volunteers in Medicine will establish a free clinic to provide routine, non-emergency medical services to working families with incomes up to 200% Federal Poverty Level.
Dress for Success - $3,424
Program/Project: Professional Women's Group
The Professional Women's Group (PWG) serves as a retention program for female members of the community that have been serviced by Dress for Success Chattanooga. PWG clients receive counseling related to their professional development which assists them with their transition into the professional workforce.

Program/Project: Repair, Renovate and Refurbish Alexian Brother Senior Neighbors Center Programs
Senior Neighbors merged with Alexian Brothers of the Southeast on September 1, 2004 to create Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors (ABSN). In order to strengthen and increase the ABSN programs and services, the ABSN building at 10th and Newby must be repaired, renovated and refurbished.

The Institute will purchase adaptive and age-appropriate books for their School Library and their Lending Library.

Normal Park Museum Magnet PTA - $20,000
Program/Project: Backyard Exploration - Gateway, Path and Gardens
Normal Park Museum Magnet (NPMM) PTA will create a fenced jogging/walking path open for public use. Along the path, which will be wheelchair accessible, the PTA will provide shaded seating and garden areas. This project is part of a larger collaboration between students, families, staff, local artists, builders, and gardeners (Backyard Exploration) in which the rear school grounds are being renovated to provide for outdoor classrooms, new playground, and an edible garden.
