Program: Volunteer Coordinator Position
The Center for Nonprofits will partner with The Tennessee River Gorge Trust, Reflection Riding Arboretum & Botanical Garden and Lookout Mountain Land Trust to create a pilot project that would provide a shared volunteer coordinator position. The coordinator will facilitate recruitment and organization of volunteers among the three organizations.

Chattanooga Endeavors - $20,000
Program: CEi Works
This grant will support the development of a staffing venture at CEi as it becomes self-sustaining. This social entrepreneurship venture (CEi Works) provides immediate employment opportunities to ex-offenders who are in the training programs while creating a new revenue stream for the organization.

Chattanooga Homeless Coalition - $20,000
Program: Data Entry and Technical Assistance
The Homeless Coalition will provide ServicePoint data entry/technical assistance to local service providers to improve the quantity/quality of homelessness/poverty data collected for the community.

Girls Inc. of Chattanooga - $12,703
Program: Girls Inc. Expansion
Girls Inc. of Chattanooga will expand its programs into the communities of Hixson, Highway 58 and Brainerd and will implement Allies in Action, a gender specific conflict resolution program designed to decrease incidents of girl-on-girl aggression, in these communities.

Ooltewah Elementary School - $20,000
Program: Literacy Immersion
This project is an extension of professional development begun by Dr. Jan Richardson. Teachers and staff will further develop their knowledge and skills for implementation of literacy instruction. Ooltewah Elementary School will serve as a literacy mentor/coach for Red Bank Elementary School.

READ Chattanooga - $20,000
Program: Recruitment and Retention in Adult Education
This project will focus on customer follow-up and retention. In 2005-2006, 64% of adults making appointments for literacy assessments did not keep their appointments, and 66% of the 1,219 students assessed, left the program before being post-tested. A Customer Service Coordinator will monitor students' progress by contacting them when they when they begin to miss classes or when they miss their assessment appointment.
Ronald McDonald House Charities - $20,000
Program: Ronald McDonald Care Mobile
The Care Mobile is a mobile dental program that will provide full-service dental care (cleaning, sealants, x-rays, fillings, extractions and caps) to children without dental insurance or those on TennCare. This is for program expansion to Rivermont, Red Bank, and Shepherd Elementary Schools and with Children's Home/Chambliss Shelter, Chattanooga Room in the Inn, and Bethlehem Center.

Chattanooga STARS - $18,390
Program: Project Fresh Start Learning Center
Pilot programs will begin at Ooltewah Middle School and Howard Middle School in January, to determine the effectiveness of an alternative to in-school suspension. The Learning Center is designed to help disruptive students be successful by determining the root causes of the misbehavior though professional counseling, tailored instruction in a contained classroom, and by providing ongoing support upon return to the regular classroom.

Program: Arts in Action
Arts in Action is an eight week summer camp for 40 rising third through eighth grade students that will provide introduction to performing arts, enrichment in reading and math skills, and meals and snacks.

Project: Purchase a Forklift
A used quad-mast forklift will be purchased to reach the highest level of the warehouse rack system. This will allow staff to utilize unused warehouse space and provide an increase of storage for 416,000 pounds of food.

This building renovation project will update and bring into compliance the kitchen wiring and service maintenance entrance.

Project: Purchase New Vehicle for Traveling Classroom
A new traveling classroom vehicle will be purchased to continue the program that has been in place for over 20 years. The vehicle will be used to transport teachers, animals, and presentation materials.

Project: Historic St. Elmo Park & Playground
The St. Elmo community is constructing a park and playground on the former St. Elmo Recreation Center property.

Henry Branch YMCA - $5,155
Project: Henry School Playground
The Henry Branch YMCA, a state-licensed preschool program for children ages 2-5, will build an improved playground to provide a safe, quality childcare experience that will enhance children's physical and mental development.

Open Arms Care Foundation - $20,000
Project: Greenhouse Expansion
OAC Corporation's Chattanooga operations will expand current greenhouse facilities and programs. The expansion will provide opportunities for more of OAC's disabled clients, as well as disabled non-clients from the community, to be engaged in meaningful work while providing essential physical, mental and rehabilitative therapy.

T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital Foundation - $20,000
Project: Vance and Stafford Pediatric Outreach Clinic
T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital will move its general pediatric clinic from the basement to a renovated space on the first floor. This clinic cares for at-risk children who might not otherwise have access to a physician.

Wally's Friends - $5,000
Project: Clinic Remodel
Wally's Friends, a start-up nonprofit, will renovate a building at 5 Unaka Street in Red Bank as a site for a reduced fee spay/neuter clinic serving Hamilton County.

WTCI-TV 45 - $20,000
Project: Master Control Switcher Replacement
The station will replace its master control switcher that controls all programming that goes on-air. The new unit can be expanded to operate several channels in the future and provide multiple program streams from one control.
