Nonprofit Stories: Lookout Mountain Conservancy
For more than 25 years, the Lookout Mountain Conservancy has protected Lookout Mountain’s scenic, historic an ecological resources for current and future generations.
The organization’s efforts center around conservation, advocacy, recreation and education.
Recently, LMC chose to embrace the true sense of community engagement. They created a partnership of two of the most unlikely partners: a poor performing inner city school and a very small land trust.
It was a nice thing to do. But it was also more than that: this partnership had life-changing potential for local students — and the Community Foundation recognized that.
The funding we’ve directed to LMC has significantly supported this partnership and, in turn, the mission of LMC. Along the way, we’ve provided encouragement and insights, helping LMC to think beyond the scope of the traditional work of a land trust, so that they become increasingly relevant in the community.
“I see the Foundation of a convener and supporter of organizations in Chattanooga,” says Robyn Carlton, the CEO of LMC. “They make it their business to understand the needs of the community, so they know how to utilize their resources to strengthen Chattanooga.”
